“If you have a teen who is caught up in the dark and destructive world of drug addiction, your entire family is at risk of facing pain and even disintegration. Dr. Lawlis’s book Not My Child is nothing short of genius as it lights the path out of that perilous world. Frank and action oriented, it will become your go-to resource at this most critical time. A copy stays at my fingertips, and I have acquired this book in bulk to share with families in need.”
— Dr. Phil McGraw, host of the Dr. Phil show and #1 New York Times best-selling author
“This is an essential book for all parents—those who feel that their child is immune to addictions, as well as those made numb from the stranglehold when their child becomes another statistic of an addiction. This book is particularly essential as it guides parents to effectively relate with their child in the throes of the addiction—after first helping parents examine themselves and confront their own fears, myths, and misconceptions. Dr. Frank Lawlis presents an invaluable, holistic framework to understand and treat these various catastrophic epidemics that claim and incapacitate the heart and soul of today’s young people. Drawing on antidotes from an arsenal of medicine, neuroscience, healthy relationships, and the healing power of vital spirituality, he guides parents to reclaim an active, caring parenting role for their child to arrest the deadening destructiveness of addictions.”
— John T. Chirban, Ph.D., Th.D., Harvard Medical School
“As an intervention specialist, I work directly with families affected by addiction, and Dr. Lawlis’s information from the latest neuroscience research will empower parents to stand up and say ‘not my child.’ Dr. Lawlis gives readers a practical, compassionate, and insightful guide for families dealing with one of the biggest epidemics ravaging America: teen addiction. Based on years of clinical experience, Dr. Lawlis explains that addiction affects not just the addicted individual, but the entire family unit.”
“My program involving family and home treatment is a strong and effective approach. This book will serve as a manual for parents and others dealing with an addicted loved one in the preteen and teenage years. Consider your involvement in this program an investment in your child’s health and well-being and in the future of your family.
“I will offer you an action plan so that you can apply this innovative approach in the real world. The process will require a concerted effort, some prayer, and a lot of love, as well as ample doses of tough love, common sense, and a willingness to face the consequences. You can love your child and hate the addiction that has tortured your relationship. . . .
“While this book offers no magic cure for the typical teen torment most parents encounter, I will offer specific and proven advice for the parent dealing with a preteen, teen, or young adult who has become addicted to drugs or alcohol. I assure you, without hesitation, that you can get through this trying and sometimes heart-wrenching challenge. The experience may even teach you something valuable about yourself, your child, and the power of unconditional love.”

If you have a son or daughter, or a family member, caught up in the dark and destructive world of drug and alcohol addiction, then this caring book Not My Child: A Progressive and Proactive Approach for Healing Addicted Teenagers and Their Families by Frank Lawlis is the one you should be reading right now.
I have no doubt that it is an essential reading for all parents, whether you are free or living under its stranglehold, the threat of drug and alcohol addiction is very real and no family or person is safe. The book endeavors to help parents to effectively examine themselves first and confront their own fears and misconceptions. It will help parents to understand the problems surrounding their child and how to effectively deal with the situation as it takes a compassionate and sympathetic look. Dr. Lawlis presents an invaluable and holistic approach to rescue them from the throes of addiction.
Meticulously laying out his framework, Dr. Lawlis in the first part of the book examines the face of teenage drug and alcohol addiction and its scope, and the threat it poses for their family, sources of teenage addiction and the importance of early detection. The second part offers insights into the special aspects of the teenage brain, which according to Dr. Lawlis make the impact of addiction more destructive. Interestingly, in the same tone Dr. Lawlis emphatically says that the teenage brain also provides unique opportunities for treatment and recovery, and laid out action plans. The third part deals with what parents and family can do to treat their teenage addict. It offers tools for parents, family members and others who want to be part of the solution to teenage addiction. I wish I would have bought this when I was in Civ Pro I, I got it when I started my semester of Civ Pro II. Breaks it down in a way that easily understandable. Freer is great and this also is a must as his intro was very informative as he explains the style of law school learning, and why they teach it the way that they do! Absolutely phenomenal!
I was completely lost in civ pro, and after watching the barbri videos (Prof. Freer is the one who teaches civ pro for Barbri) I understood more, but this book helped me understand it all !!
Must if you take or want to learn the essentials of Civ Pro! Great little book. Love it!!!

LLC vs. S-Corp vs. C-Corp Explained in 100 Pages or Less Kindle Edition

File Size: 224 KBPrint Length: 119 pagesPublisher: Simple Subjects, LLC (August 20, 2014)Publication Date: August 20, 2014 Sold by: Digital Services, Inc. Another edition in CPA Piper’s "100 Pages or Less" series, this book focuses on the common business structures, exploring the formation, liability, and taxation issues for each. (Note that Sole Proprietorships and Partnerships are covered as well.) The unique selling point of Piper’s books is that they offer explanations in as concise a manner as possible. He truly does have a gift for clarity and brevity. If you follow his blog you’ll know that he excels at crafting short but meaningful explanations. This economical book is no exception. If you’re new to the topic and want to assess the various business structures quickly, you’ll be rewarded. The book has everything you need for a basic understanding, and possibly the final decision. Beyond the essential financial and legal implications, Piper also assesses the paperwork overhead and professional costs (accounting/attorney fees) for the different structures, which I especially appreciated.
If you’re trying to figure out just which legal organization type you need to choose to start your business, this is the book for you. It’s short, to the point, and details the major pros and cons to starting your business in each business type. I bought and read half a dozen books (Ok, maybe I didn’t finish them all, because some of them are so detailed, they actually overwhelmed me with info) on the subject before finding these little 100 page books. I was leaning toward starting an LLC, which I’ve started before (as well as an S-corp), but by the time I finished this book, much to my relief, I decided to start off as a sole proprietor using contractors, rather than setting up a complex structure that requires a LOT of paperwork each quarter (especially the S-corp). The author helps you think about your needs and gives you the salient details about what’s useful and not so useful in each organization type. The book is written in a very conversational tone which I found comforting. I went through the entire book in 2 sittings of about 1-2 hours each sitting.
As a lawyer, I have all of the necessary books which cover these topics, but what makes this title valuable is that it offers a quick and concise review. This book is full of practical advice, which is what my clients look for. Download LLC vs. S-Corp vs. C-Corp Explained in 100 Pages or Less Kindle Edition Free PDF

As a Grandparent of eight grandchildren, I have read Cathi Cohen’s book with great interest and have recommended it to the parents of our grandchildren. It is a simple building block approach to acquiring social skills and self confidence in children who are struggling to be accepted and do not know why they they are meeting with failure. It is extremely beneficial to the parents who may be challenged in trying to help their youngsters meet with success. I only wish I had it available when I needed it.
I am the mother of two very different children. This book contains logical and understandable guidelines that can be used for both of my children. While reading through the examples, I found myself saying "Yes, that’s just like my daughter/son" and "that may not work with my daughter but would work with my son". The chapters are well written and easy to understand. Ms. Cohen has combined her experiences as a therapist and the reality of being a mother and placed them in a very valuable tool for parents. Thank you Ms. Cohen..
As the Practice Administrator for a group of pediatricians, this book is highly recommended to many of our patient’s parents whose children are experiencing social skills issues. As one reads the extraordinarily well-conceived anecdotes describing specific problems/circumstances/behaviors, parents have told us that it is validating to them to have someone describe a situation that appears "just like my child" and wonderful to have a "tools book" that enables the parent(s) to proactively work with their child to overcome their child’s social "obstacles" with the end result being an increase in self-esteem. The format of the book is very easy to understand and truly illustrates the concept of "building blocks" providing both parent and child with an effective and proactive guide to implementing a program that will assisst a parent in increIDg their child’s people skills.
